SONAR: SCHALLWELLEN AUF SAPHIRKERAMIK

Sonar is the refined and graceful bathroom collection designed by Patricia Urquiola who has further explored the unique properties of SaphirKeramik, the versatile, malleable and robust ceramic material developed by LAUFEN.

I liked the idea of using the little waves generated by sound. The texture on the outside of the washbasin bowls was modelled on these waves. I not only wanted to work with the lightness of the ceramics, I also wanted to find a way to design its surface”, so Patricia Urquiola to describe the idea underpinning Sonar, the bathroom collection designed for LAUFEN.

Expressive and yet minimalist, Sonar’s formal language plays with arcs and angles, emphasising the slender lines of Saphirkeramik. To further enhance the lightness of the objects, Urquiola and Laufen developed a fine, threedimensional texture for the external surfaces of the washbasin bowls.

Saphirkeramik remains a protagonist in Laufen’s production and it continues transforming the way interior design is applied in the world of bathroom culture.

The textured version can be selected as an optional alternative to the traditional smooth surface and is reminiscent of sound waves propagating in water.

The Sonar collection includes floorstanding and wallmounted washbasins, two washbasin bowls and a double washbasin bowl, also available in white matt and all made of Saphirkeramik together with a new furniture collection.
